Selecting the finishes for our kitchen was of course my favourite part of our project. My goal was to create a space that was going to feel bright and fresh and stand out from the rest of the home. After gathering much inspiration and brainstorming ideas, I came up with a design that is not only classic and beautiful, but is also very functional to our needs.

I started my design with a palette in mind, all white, stainless steel, marble feels, while combining modern and traditional elements. For our cabinets we choose an all white shaker style. To save on costs of the cabinetry, we went with a MDF Thermofoil material which is an engineered wood product. It costs about half the price of real wood, and looks just good. As for the hardware, we went with a simple polished chrome knob on the doors, with matching pulls for the drawers. Our counters are Quartz and also happen to be my favorite part of our space. Called White Arabesque Quartz, it embodies an impactful grey veining, set against a vivid off-white backdrop, mimicking the lively look of natural marble. I truly believe that counter tops are the focal part of any kitchen, so this was one area I didn't want to cheap out on.

For lighting, we went with four inch LED pot lights through out the space, on a dimmer of course. Originally there was a small track light in the kitchen, but it didn't give off nearly enough light. As for the backsplash, I choose a 2.5 x 9.5 white gloss ceramic tile and had it installed stacked instead of your traditional subway tiling. The floor tile pattern matches, in a 11.6 x 23.5 modern black porcelain tile.
