Welcome to the jungle
"In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothin' you can't do". . .
Have you ever loved something so much, you find it hard to explain? This is exactly how I feel when I think of New York City. This wasn't my first visit, nor will it be my last, but each time I stay it gets better and better. This particular visit was extra special for me because it was my very first fashion week experience. While I didn't get the chance to be present at a live show, I was able to attend some amazing exclusive after party events, met a few super awesome bloggers, which included an unplanned hello to one of my all time favorites, Danielle from @weworewhat, networked with so many amazing stylists and artists and made many new friendships along the way.
I rented an apartment in SoHo for the week via airbnb. One of the smartest ways to book your stay in any city you travel to. I got to experience how a true New Yorker lives, snug in their studio space apartments, 5 floors up with no elevator access. It was perfect. SoHo, a neighborhood in lower Manhattan, is known for its amazing cast iron architecture, trendy upscale boutiques and dozens of lovely coffee shops and restaurants. It was ideal in every way and I can definitely say that I would stay in the same area, even in the same apartment next time I visit.
While in New York, I couldn't get enough of the endless possibilities that surrounded me. A place where one is truly free to be themselves. A city that never sleeps, and a wanderer's ecstasy. On my first night there, I was invited to the Michael Kors gold fragrance collection launch which included an amazing performance by Duran Duran, copious amounts of champagne, scattering Victoria secret models inclusive of the beautiful Naomi Campbell, and plush attire. It was an evening I'll never forget and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to be there. From there, each day only got better. I connected with some really amazing people, including blogger Lily Montasser from @demeler. We met for lunch, and had an awesome shoot on the charming streets of SoHo. I am super excited to share the experience in an upcoming blog post. I also visited with a friend from Brooklyn. She took me to the Brooklyn bowl to a live hip-hop and R&B show performed by a group called "Orchestra Holistic" they were so good and so different from any live show i've ever attended. (Thank you Melissa!)
The street style was incomparable to any city i've ever visited. The people are so trendy and intriguing and when it comes to fashion, anything goes. That's the beauty of personal style and expressing yourself, just do you. I was able to capture a few images of some beautiful trendy people during my stay and I will be sharing them with you soon. I've loaded a bunch of photos below of the city, different boutiques, some good eats and the things that made me happy. I hope you enjoy it! Stay tuned for more.
